Had a quick look-see and cant find anything on the series section about this.

What axle/brake options are there for a SWB Series 3. I know the swb has only 10*1.5" drums and the lwb has bigger drums (11*3"?).
They should fit with no problems, but can Disco/Rangie stuff be fitted?

I realise the diffs will fit to a std Rover axle, but are the brakes and swivels swapable? It seems that as the Dibnah has leaking diff seals (easy to fix), but the front swivel balls are corroded and leaking, maybe it would be easier to swap the complete axle fur a lwb one - or is swapping the disks and balls from a disco a feasable option? I assume fitting Disco/Rangie axles complete is not an option, because of the work involved (and the fact that they are wider)?
I currently have servo assisted brakes - so I am hoping that helps.
I am trying to figure out the most cost effective way of a) curing the problems and b) possibly improving the brakes.

to fit discs to it yer gonna have to do a ship load of work and bracket making up, as you need somewhere to hang the caliper from.. paddocks do a complete swivel kit fer under 50 notes, i think

its not easy to do, there is a lot of work involved to get them to fit but it can be done if you don't mind the sweat and tears

hope this helps

tell yu wot, Slob - yu drive my motor at 210kph and try and apply 9.5 million ft/lbs of energy thru my brakes and I will video it - i bet it wud be more entertaining than the Boeing vid.

a) curing the problems
Get a swivel repair kit from padds and fill the ball with semi-fluid grease it don't matter if it leaks then.

b) possibly improving the brakes

The standard cheep approach is to fit 11" drums of a LWB series 3
but if this is not enough then Rockymountain do a disk kit that bolts on (As Slob says lots of Sheets).

I personally find that the 10" swb non-servo single leading shoe brakes fitted to Crusty quite adequate if adjusted right and in good condition.
If i stand on them i can lock all 4 at any speed i like.

ta Clivees.

I have one shot allready, but havent fitted it yet - dint think there was much point if I was going to change them.

the q, really is is it worth fixing mine - or a better option to just change them - it looks like 11" are the way to go.

I would fix the ones (swivels) i have and pop on a set of 11" drums (I have a full set of bits off a LWB sitting in my workshop BTW if your intrested?) i was planing to do this to Crusty but i fixed the 10" and they work fine now.

fur those that are interested - here are some piccies of disco front and rear axles - it is SO different (steering arm and damper behind swivel, etc). I think the easiest/cheapest way to do a disk Series, would be to cut the flanges off the ends of the rear axles and weld the disco flanges on. the front might be possible to change the outside bits from the swivel and fit the disco ones on back to front, if the swivels are the same size.

any ideas? or anyone wanna donate a s3 and a disco front and rear axles fur me to play about with?

i can go get one if yu want - which yu obviously do. Unfortunately I can only get piccies from the backplate side at the mo - unless Sirus wants to take a wheel orf tomorow ;)
