right looking from the front of my 96 defender, while the steering being rocked the axle moves sideways slighty, on closer inspection the radius arms also move sideways slightly, i'm thinking the rear bushes on radius arms are shot, any one got any other suggestions

How much movement you got? Even with new bushes it will move.
The sideways movement is controlled by the panhard rod more so than the radius arms.
