hi folk, on the work manual it mentionas that the axle identification number is on the top left of the axle tube. Can anybody be more specific to as where is it stamped? I've cleaned out most the axle and I still cant find the number. Is it placed near to the wheel or near to the diff ? Any help much apreciated. I've even used a micro cam, but to no help..

halfway along the long tube usually just above seem,but you dont really need it to buy parts for 300 tdi

Thanks James, I need to know if the axle has a 10 spline or 24 spline diff. That is the reason I need the axle number.

if its an original 300 tdi axle and diff it will be 24 spline all 300tdis are

Another option would have been to whip a rear half shaft out.
Out, concluded and back in within 10 mins.

That was a good idea... I hadn't thought about taking a rear half-shaft out and have a look. Thaks man !
