New to me 1995 Disco 1 V8i (LPG) Automatic.

First thing that needs to be done is the usual oil change, plugs etc However Haynes manual reckons that changing the automatic transmission fluid should be left for a dealer. Is that right? I am sure I saw Edd China doing it without too much problem. Any advice?

changing oil is easy changing filter means removing sump and a t27 torx bit,you will get 4-5 litres out ,refill and check by running through gears to fill clutch packs and check level while engine running in neutral

Also required is removing the exhaust Y pipe and crossmember to remove the sump, with that in mind I get an LR garage to do it although it costs me £150 extra to the normal service but I think worth it, sod laying under a disco mucking about with all that stuff, I never did with my old RRC but then that was main dealer serviced :)

I am a relative novice and I managed to change the Auto filter on my 89 RRC. I didn,t have to remove the exhaust and used a window sash clamp reversed to ease the chassis rails so crossmember could be wiggled/tilted forward to free sump. I used a 25 torx, are discos different? I was advised that as about half the old ATF is held in the torque converter, once you have changed the filter and refitted sump to fill box will take about 4 litres, run for a day or two then drain and refill again. That way you flush most of old ATF out. As I said I am a relative novice and did what I was advised by those far more experienced than I.

Yes a 1995 disco is different from a 1989 RRC , 6 years of improvement :) but the exhaust still has to be dropped.

its is govenor controlled box fett, box is the same mechanically as earlier rrc ,same torx screws, and one oil change is enough i wouldnt risk doing another straight away

just make sure you read the FAQ on ashcroft transmissions for the 4hp22 before you do it

You will see why!
