Would a auto discovery be just as good off road as a manual box
and where could i get a new carpet all the way though . thanks

Opinions will be divided depending on what people personally prefer but autos are great off road. Dunno about carpets though.

arguably better. If you are taking it off road remove the carpets and that awful sound deadening sponge.

Assuming you're not talking about a Discovery 3 (Auto every time with them) the Auto will not be quite so good for descending very steep hills. On the flip side far more controllable and virtually impossible to stall when climbing those hills.
