After owning my disco 2 for 10 years, i am now in the market for a 3. What are the experts advice on manual gearboxes? I had an auto and never thought i would change back BUT the price difference is huge!!

I'm no expert, but what I've heard is that the auto box is generally reliable if it receives an oil change (every 100k or so IIRC). And the manual is expensive if you need the clutch / DMF doing.

Personally I think that engine suits the auto box well.

Never had a D3, but the autobox in my D2 was fantastic, although unloved by some in the RR section.

Like he says^^^^^^^^^^^, occasional trans fluid change never hurts.

As I said, my memory is hazy on the issue - I ave a D2. What's the recommended interval for a change get of fluid then? And what's the going rate?
what land rover suggest is necessarily the best for the long term, they have service costs to consider,l322 was filled for life til the boxes failed at 60k ,20 or 30k woud be plenty imo

id change the oil a bit more regularly than that ,

plus 1 , looks like replacing the ATF every 60,000 miles , indeed as u say land rover originally said these D3 boxes were sealed for life

also some are making the mistake of using Dexron in these zf6hp gearboxes
