Hi all, hope your having a decent day (even though its been quite cold today).
Ok so....... I had a problem with my kick down cable and decided to replace it. I stripped the sump and valve block to get to the cable and noticed that the cable seemed fine so left it and put it back together (with and new oil pump and new oil)

More investigation lead to the issue being the pump end (the person who owned the landy previous and decided he was going from a edc fuel injection pump to a non edc and made a mess of it....bless him!).

Anyways, I've sorted all that out now but my land rover won't change into 4th gear. It will go up all the gears ok (Although not as smooth as I would have liked) and when it comes to changing to 4th it just revs like mad and won't go up to 4th gear. It seemed fine in this regards before I touched it.
Does anyone have any suggestions, do you think maybe I haven't refitted the valve block correctly or something like that?

I noticed that I have a transmission oil leek which wasn't there before but I have seen where its coming from and I am going to sort out out next week. I topped the oil up today and still the problem persists.

Any ideas?
 
did you get kick down cam and selector valve located properly when refitting block and if you changed foilter did you ensure both orings were fitted

Is there anything specific I should know about refitting the kickdown cam and selector valve?
I thought I did it fine but when I manually select gears it doesn't feel as positive as it should be.
Also both the orings were fitted.

Disconnect the kick-down cable, then test-drive. If it goes into 4th (top) gear you know where the problem is.

The kick down on the fuel injection pump?
I thought it was a bad idea to drive around with it removed.

Sounds like a kickdown cable adjustment to me, if its too short it will hold the engine revs too high to allow the box to chage gear

you need to get underneath, loosen the locknut, on the cable on the gearbox,open the bonnet and ensure the throttle is fully closed, back at the cable turn the adjuster nut until you have from 0.25mm - 1.25mm of freeplay in the cable, check the throttle is still closed and that should be ok

Hi there mate, I didn't realise the kickdown cable could be adjusted at the gearbox?
or am I reading your reply wrong lol?

Did you read my post #8? That attachment shows exactly how Land Rover suggest the kick-down cable should be adjusted.
