The plastic frame surounding the selector can slid slid forward (may be backwards I forget now) to unclipped and lifted up and then you can see the two bulb holders (one each side) you can just about get to them to twist and release, I used pointed pliers as it was so tight for my fingers and there was also some carpet ends in the way

I had the same problem
At the rear of the gear leaver you can leaver up the outside trim, once this if off you will see two laps one each side these were gone on mine, also there is a fuse that is in the fuse box under the flap on the driverside, think its fuse number 14, its the one that controls the lighing for the controls, dash, form memeory think its a red one..
