I've got a 2003 FL1 V6 ES Premium. It's got a few issues including low compression around one of the cylinders, exhaust needs changing, suspension is awful, tyres don't match etc, but despite this, I love the concept of the FL1 and when it runs well, it's great. The cost of all this stuff is probaboy not worth doing. a local garage has a near identical car except its a facelift, lower mileage and hopefully some service history.

The question is: did LR fix the common faults in the V6 between the facelifts, or is this one just going to suffer from the same problems as I've got now? Did the Fl1 facelift get isofix seats?

By common faults you are referring to which? The facelift is mechanically the same as the pre facelift with the exception of minor changes.
No FL1 has Isofix as far as I know.

Good point, I guess I was referring to the major ones, ie did they move to the MLS HG or is still the thinner one until changed. Assume also therefore the same crappy inlet manifold plenum with VIS motors etc and same likelihihood of 3 amigos.
 
The HG is a MLS design. It's very similar the uprated 1.8 gasket. I suspect it's made by Klinger.
The VIS system is the same regardless of age. The Rover 800 twin plenum was much better but is hard to find these days.
 
HGF on the V6 Freelander is much more likely to be caused by bad cooling system maintenance or incorrect bleeding. As long as the cooling system is working as it should, HGF generally isn't an issue.
I'm probably biased though as I love the V6 engine!!
