I know the obvious differences like size etc but could I use the engine from a manual RR in my auto without any major problems???

Thanks

So essentially they are the same but the ancillaries are different when it comes to the way the boxes are mounted.

Think I can cope with that, time to find something bigger to replace my 3.5 then!!!

Thanks

Steve

So being dumb here, can i do the same with my factory v8 5speed (reverse top left) 1985 90?

chars

yeah, just swap over the flywheel n matching spigot.
A couple of brackets will be different, but most of it externally is essentially the same.
I just fitted a late serp one that was fitted to a manual box in a disco2 into a '90 RRC with auto box.

depending on the age and milage i would also suspect changing the thrust washers if it was a manual as too much end float on the crank can damage the gearbox

its a 1985 manual with just over 27K on the clock now (genuine)
looks like that's the next step in my project after the house then, good idea with the changing of parts. cheers.

I was thinking along the lines of building a track style car based on a V8. Get a rover block nicely tuned on carbs then just swap it between the track car and the landy....summer is track car winter is landy.....yes i am weird lol :)

You'll always be on a compromise though, you want a revvy cam for the light car and a torquier tune for the landy.

For the price of v8s now you could easily buy another...

I was thinking i can have a really light flywheel and HP exhaust for the track and a torque and heavy fly/exhaust for offroading.
just a ponder.
prob just get a gti6 ans strip it, £1500 cant go wrong

I don't know what the fascination is with the gti6!

You can get a civic Vti for less that a grand, and it unbreakable! Or an old Subaru for turbo entertainment?!

By the way I agree with your pondering about the v8, I just think it would turn out too impractical, especially considering the price of an engine.

it would be allot of effort to swap it every year but i do like projects.
why the GTI6, i had a 306 meridan when i was younger and thought it had nice handling, pedals where perfect for heal and toe (i think so)
insurance aswell, i say track car but then i would like it road legal and buzz about in the summer at some stupid time in the morning (yer i know naughty),
cost to fix is an aspet aswell
i got 2 mates with dc5's and a couple with dc2's. i could pick one of those up for 2500 (crapper though) but how much is it going to cost when i inevitably hit the wall or tree, do the engine in or anything else, it would cost me allot more to fix a honda. any specialise performance parts wouldnt need to be shipped in ( the american after market parts are just ****e so gotta be jap).
so thus a gti, i would really love to do lotus 7 style, avon or alike but at the end of the day your still looking at £6K+, just want some thing i can hammer,
i went the land rover root to try and bypass my lust for speed and reving but it still there in the background and my 1.4 megane just isnt worth considering lol

a well setup gti6 can rinse some low end porsche and even type'r's are in the ya mirrors.

lol the scooby, surely after 2 laps turbo is dead and most of the back wheels arnt inline with the front lol :)

anyway soz for the hijack.

Looks like you got it worked out!

I came from Honda to land rover to try to save money, and look what happened! :D

However the disco is pretty much all told for 7k, my ep3 could have absorbed 15k in a blink.

Yes you're right about repairing the Honda if you binned it. Have you seen the price of ep3s recently though?!

Problem with Hondas is that the engines last forever but the bodyshell won't!

K20 mgtf? Now there's a thought!

Ok bag of **** but you cannot deny they drive well.

Plenty about with popped motors, get a binned ep3, 3k, 250bhp and it's a soft top :D
