Having a senior moment
Hi Guys...

We're thinking of taking a couple of days in north wales; probably next week. It's likely that I will be able to sneak in a few small lanes and I wondered whether anyone could let me know which of the local ones around colwyn area are ok for me to do alone. I don't really want to be getting people out and about for a whole day... more likely to be a quick visit on the way from one place to another.

I do have maps, of course, but viewing them on there won't tell me which ones are ok for me to do alone and which ones are not.

PM me if you don't want to make the locations into a free for all!

Oh... and a handly local phone number in case things do go tits up would be...err...sensible.:D

Cheers all

Not a lot around Colwyn bay and what there is tends to be tarmacced but overgrown better round betws y coed or dolwyddelan but as Muddy says not really lanes to be done on your own.

having done most of that area alone - no problems as long as you are prepared to look first not just drive!! Always did route recces alone - proved that when a group of you did them that there would be no hidden dangers, takes longer by yourself but as long as you take precautions and be sensible what can go wrong. Having worked this way for over 10 years I do know what I am talking about and still use the same practice down here now.

c'mon pikey you have done routes around that area with me and know that it is not the most challenging of areas as long as you are careful, now Ryder does come across as a person that has some experience under his tyres so what can go wrong - be different if we where talking to a complete newby of course

Was thinking more of the long walk out if he breaks summat. :D especially with mobile fone cover been a bit non existant up there

unless he finds the lane that has the gateposts that a 90 will only fit through by taking the wheel arches off as you go through - that could be interseting in a Disco!! Also the the same lane further down was where my driving partner just managed to my 90 on its side - easy to right with a hi lift on the roof !!!

Oh dear.. well I do have a lot of experience with the loss of forward motion down here in Herts. But it has taught us something over the last couple of years...

Usually I wouldn't go out alone except locally where I know the lanes well enough to judge which ones are safe enough and also have numbers to call for emergency rescue. Jai_Landrover might take a while to get to us though, being as he will be four hours away!

It was just a thought really... it will be such a shame to get to the area, which I can not afford to visit very often, and not be able to explore a little.

I wouldnt do any lane alone matey.

Indeed thaht is a piece of advice I would offer to anyone who posted like I did. But I have a little experience and (despite spyderman's assurances to the contrary) haven't been seriously stuck for quite a long time.

Well I was once stuck for quite a long time... 29 hours in fact but I think that's a bit of a different story!

Ryder if you want the map refs to some lanes that do "go", let me know and I will pm them to you (once I find which box my old os maps are in! Sod that still have mem map on one of my laptops - just need to remember which one!)
