Hi guys,
Recently i have been getting a groaning sort of noise coming from the front of the vehicle, sounding like the brakes we're binding or such. Ive checked them, along with the obvious possibility (wheel bearings) too. All seems to be fine. Could it be the front diff/ird bearings? Has anyone else had similar problems before?
Appreciate any input, Jase :)

Is your rear propshaft in place? Have you done a VCU test?

inner or outer driveshaft cv's

does it only happen in a straight line or does the sound change whilst cornering?

Did they check the IRD for damage? I assume your VCU failed and had to be replaced for that reason.

IRD wasn't really checked, only for excessive play on the flange. VCU didn't fail either, car had done 90,000 miles on the original, and after reading the vcu horror stories/along with feeling resistance when reversing, i decided to bite the bullet and get it replaced for the peace of mind :)

Where did you have it done? A regular garage will have used the **** cheapy VCU bearings, that's what my money is on.

Changed both gearbox and IRD oil today also, there was a very small amount of filings on the IRD drain plug, none on the gearbox :)

well that would be the cv's then unless you already done them?

Haven't payed much attention to the CV's, will have to have a look, thanks freelaner :)
Someone else had there money on it being front diff bearings, has anyone else had them go before?

the front diff is in the ird!
so this would be shown up in the oil, probably.

give the drive shafts a good shake and look underneath while an assistant turns the steering lock to lock.

Ah nice one, i'll check tomorrow and keep you updated.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated! :)
