Hi,

This is my first post and hope someone can clear up something for me...

I have recently bought a Freelander 1.8 Petrol and the engine is shot. Instead of going to the length of rebuilding the engine I just want to replace it with a good one.

Is it possible to drop in any non-VVC 1.8 'K' series engine into the car? Providing it is the distributor type, although the cams can be changed from my old engine to overcome this if it is a Dis Pack engine?

*I have been told from one source that it isn't and that only one type of engine fits (From the Rover 75 or from another Freelander) but I doubt that this is true?

Thanks in advance!

How bad is the old unit? Wouldn't it be cheaper to build the top end up, rather than buy in a non guaranteed 'recycled' unit?

It looks like that is going to be my first port of call....

Get the engine out, strip it and then see what is what. If it is top end end only it would be nice :D

That is probably the sensible option. Post you findings - this sort of thing is always interesting reading.
