I have just got a '63 plate Freelander 2 which already had a tow bar with 7 pin cable installed and I was looking for advice around how much work changing the cable to the Euro plug for pulling a caravan would be. Each time I do a search for this I find a different answer with comments about ECU mapping change/no change, fuse changes etc etc etc so I am hoping someone has already gone through this successfully...

The VIN is an EHxxxx one but I got no manuals/handbooks with it and cannot be more precise than that although if someone can help direct me to something which the critical identifiers for actual model variant I am only too happy to go searching

Can't you get an adapter?

I have the 'standard' LR round socket on my F1 but everything here has flat sockets, so I have a round to flat adapter.

The Freelander 2 before 2013 needed a towing module be installed, as part of the towbar wiring. The CJB then needed to be told that the tow bar was installed, which is just a simple configuration of the CCFs, if you have the correct equipment.

After 2013, the towbar wiring no longer needed a towing module, as it was made plug n play. There was also no need for CCF configuration, as it was now designed to be self calibrating.

In answer to your question. You simply need the correct 13 pin Euro cable, which plugs into the vehicle at one end (where your current 12N harness is plugged), and has the new 13 pin trailer socket at the other.

And I managed to stuff up a simple forum reply....on a rapid downhill slope after a moment of happiness

Not cheap. Something like £160.
Why don't you just fit a 13 pin socket to your current wiring, and add any extra cables required?

Think my adapter cost about £5.

I have found a cable on John Craddock (VPLFT0106) that looks to be what I need and says it is for DHxxxx and later and just onder £100 with VAT. My knowledge/skills are not up to modifying the existing cable without a risk of damaging something which then results in a multi-hundreds bill to fix.
