Hi guys,
I've got a 2004 (15P) TD5, brought it a week ago and thought I'd do the oil filters and yup you guessed it, the threads came out the housing, looks like the previous owner may have had an issue too but just managed to nip them up. Car's now stuck at work and only have tomorrow to fix it before a holiday. So after a temporary or permanent fix. Read conflicting options, some say you can put a nut and bolt through, I haven't been able to check, but does this require drilling through or does the hole already go all the way through? I've tried googling but the housings on google seem really thin so the bolts go all the way through easy, so i presume it must be different housings on the later engines as my bolts are really long, at a guess, 3 or 4cm? But like I say, I haven't actually checked the housing as ran out of time and was getting booted out the door. Other options is to drill and tap M8 threads but I don't really want to strip anything down as I have limited time I can work on it tomorrow.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate this has been covered many times but after searching I'm unable to find a certain answer, especially for the later engine/housing.

Hi Adam,

I had the same problem on one of the bolts the first time i changed my rotor filter, all i ended up doing was drilling through then putting a nut and bolt in there - seems to of worked out alright and I don't have any leaks.

Thanks for the quick reply Reddiscotd5! Was your engine the later TD5 if you mind me asking? And by the sounds I was correct in thinking you have to drill all the way through, is there enough room to do it in place?
Thanks

AFAIK the housings are all the same and the thread goes through from top to bottom so if the original bolt is not tightening just use a long enough one to go all the way down and put a nut on it, simple as that

All 3 of mine are use nuts and bolts, one of them was easier to push the bolt up to get the nut on, can't remember which one though !
