Hi again guys.....As some of you may be aware, we are travelling to France early next month

I decided over the weekend to input the destination Postcode (87300) into the factory fitted satnav whilst parked at my Home location here in North Wales.
I started off by selecting "Destination" and selecting "France" on the displayed map of Europe as the destination Country. Followed on with entering the above code "87300" and "OK", the screen froze for about 30 seconds then went blank with an error message "DVD Map fault" or similar.
I took the car across to France last year and used the satnav, but can't remember whether I set the French destination when I was waiting to disembark the ferry at Calais and actually in France.
I have a Tomtom with Europe maps and that will give me the complete route from home to my French Postcode without having to reprogramme after leaving the UK.
Secondly, is it possible to select "Avoid Toll Roads" from the in car satnav settings as I can with the Tomtom?
Can anyone enlighten me.
Cheers.

Sadly the D3 sat nav is pretty ****e, in my opinion its only real use it to tell you the name of the road you are curently on.

Did you set it up for France before entering address, I cant rememebr how but think theres a shaded out mao of Europe and you pick the bit you want?

Thanks for your reply Bud.......Yes, I selected France on the map (It turned green) and the UK automatically went Grey. I think you can only select one country at a time and because the satnav still locates me at home in the UK and not France it throws a wobbly. Seems strange that a big black box and fancy touch screen cannot do what my old Tomtom which is older, smaller, cheaper and less sophisticated can do what I want easily.
The Navigation handbook for the Satnav system doesn't tell you much other than setting your home country.

I am sure in our 322 we can input a Uk address from start to finish for the trip (but we are a bit newer and not a dvd)

Have you tried to input the trip as starting in Calais and see what it does? ( after selecting French map).
Am sure you can drive to Dover without sat nav:)

We all love them, but for us we put in a days drive destination, but carry a good up to date paper map.And sometimes ignore the sat nav(yes she may shout at you :) but will work it out).

Thanks marjon....Yes, mine is DVD driven.
Not 100% sure at the moment as I am in the house, but I think the satnav does not have a selectable start point option-it automatically calculates from the current position. However I will have a further look at it in the morning and update my findings.
I am going across to Dieppe from Newhaven and missing Paris and the outskirts because I will have a large(ish) caravan in tow.
Failing setting up the destination in Dieppe ok, I have the old Tomtom and the foolproof book of maps which the other half is not very good at reading !!

UPDATE.....
Decided to have another play this afternoon.
Selected France on the map and entered the town (Limoges) instead of the postcode as previously, then picked a street and house number at random......The satnav then calculated the route from here in N. Wales and showed the route summary, albeit from the UK to Belgium :D then down though France to Limoges.
Although I am arriving at Dieppe via the ferry from Newhaven, it proves that the system can calculate from the UK to mainland Europe in one go.
I now reckon that using the French postcode as a destination choice can cause it to go a bit scatty !
At least I still havethe Tomtom and the good old road atlas as "Belt & Braces" backups.

Thanks guys for your inputs:)
