Right I have been struggling with today. Two attempts later I had a suitable locking device made but for the life of me I could not measure the torque setting on the nut, I even tried two torque wrenches but no avail. Eventually the nut came loose without getting a figure so now its in bits dribbling oil out after struggling to get the seal out also?

Does anybody have any ideas why I'm not getting torque figures, even when I started with a low setting, I'm worried how I'm going to tighten it sufficiently.

when tighten the flange you are crushing a spacer tube and how tight depends on pinions rolling resistance which cant be exactly measured with carrier and crown wheel in place, just tighten it up till all play is removed from the flange ,flange will rock very free at that point then add 10- 20 degrees rock flange repeat till you can feel some slight resistance
