series 3 `81 21/4 diesel, the local garage (rural) not familiar with series l/r
they fit the front exhaust pipe and rang me to say the clutch had gone !
symptoms - will not engage when engine on
- good pressure on pedal
- no oil leak, I fitted a slave cylinder last year

Is it clutch, gearbox or hydraulic system. If its gearbox out the garage will have to do it. (expensive i suppose)
Any clues or ideas would be helpful
thanks

exhaust runs quite close to slave cylinder pipe ,first id check level in reservoir they can leak slowly not detrimental if kept topped up ,they should have idea if real mechainics be careful ,or just not got all 3 selector shafts in neutral on the gear box so wont select gear

thanks for that,
there good mechanics and and i take my other vehicle to them, they just seemed a bit lost on what the problem is and mention of the gear box will have to come out.

Check they haven't knackered the slave cylinder pipe easily done when trying to poke the front pipe through the gap in the chassis/cross member until you work out that the car needs to be about 3" off the ground to make it go...
