As above - is this allowed or do I have to post my freelander mini-resto thread in with the big scary boys?

Have you seen my 'Mother of all projects' thread?

It might take a while to get through it. 😜

That poprivet bloke was a bit scary, well, maybe weird rather than scary, but not seen him on here for years. Anyhow, let's hear about this resto then. The opening pic looks very promising.

Great - thanks ... this is my 2nd 50th, the first an L series without the plastic go faster strips, but beggars can't be choosers...

I've also got a proper Land Rover ('53 plate TD5 ES Premium - 88k and only 3 owners from new, inc me).

I've done up a couple of other cars in my time, usually (even) more roadgoing though than the 50th.

_DSC1202 (2).JPG

The TD5 just needed a bit of TLC to bring it back, the 968 got written of by a lad in a corsa and took me 8 years to get back (mainly the financials) but I fitted OEM M030 sports suspension, brakes and retro-fitted air-con on the journey.

The 50th, if and when we get the K-series reliable (!) will be a sunny days and camping car (thinking something like a tentbox lite 2) for the odd weekend away with my OH.

Anyhow...somewhat unusually i've started beautification, even though we have no MOT due to a lean lambda reading...TBC!

Scuttle off - foam had (obviously) disintegrated and i wanted to check it wasn't full of rot and leaves against the bulkhead...
hinge covers.jpg

so after a frighteningly expensive (though not porsche prices) purchase of two hinge covers...and an hours drill brush, scrubbing and G-technic C4 handywork we have a scuttle and parts looking like this...it is the original scuttle - the car is a true survivor and been garaged for most if not all its life.

i'm awaiting some air filter foam sheet to remake the scuttle vent, the clamping pieces have had a day in the deox-c and will go in again for a 2nd dip then be electrox'd and satin blacked....all without the use of pop rivets.

i've got a NOS pasenger wiper arm coming (£15) as the old was a bit k'd, but this won't be a cheque book resto...salvage and remake, reifnish is me.

But the car is a great base to start from, the underside is in fabulous order, just a little rust on the nearside cill to wing joint but the cills, subframes etc are all solid as.

The tailgate has less rust on the top window / rubber than mine orignal had after 3 years....

Given the condition i'd like to bring it up to the same standard as my TD5.

...but maybe with a lotus, 1.8t or VVC engine! (that probalby won't happen:rolleyes:).

I do think a refurbed VCU is soon going to be on the way soon though...

It's all looking good. I tell you what, your disco looks lovely. I really like seeing stock D2s now as more and more of them are seriously modded (which is fine) but it's nice to see one looking so original and mint. Cracking Porsche too!

Adding a turbo has been done, there is a thread here from a few years ago.
VVC has been discussed but I think it was decided torque at lower rpm was more desirable than hp at 7k.
Muddymods is your go to for upgrades.

Hi Ali - yes - i know - it was a half-joke about getting carried away.
i'm working my way through your EV thread - very impressive (all involved) - i'm strugging to comprehend how to hack the d2b protocol for aux in and keep the clock!😂

I bet the real land rover chaps are going to love this....

I've recut the NLA baffles from air filter foam, stripped and repainted the clamping frames

done one pass with my DasPro and 105 - paint isn't bad at all but there's a few scratches through the clearcoat so i'm not sure whether to preserve as is.
