The whine is increasing so time to get a new one before it finally dies. (Likely on a busy A road, in the country, on a blind corner at rush hour!!}
Which make to go for? Which manufacturer? Is Denso worth £100 over Lucas?
Suggestions and advice gratefully received. Thanks.

The wine can be a bearing getting dry, usual for it to be front. Try a dribble of oil behind the fan as temporary measure. Also replacement bearings are available. Check your alts output with volt meter.

Rotating electrics shop should rebuild, or exchange for a recon unit.
Last time I had one done for a Ninety it was 80 quid. That was probably 10 years ago, so it might be 100 quid now.

If I buy a full alternator ( or starter ), then I tend to use the Starter motor and Alternator company in plymouth - no affiliation, just a satisfied customer....

If I rebuild one, then parts from Mid Ulster Rotating Electrics are excellent quality, and the service and knowledge second to none IME..

Plus one on above, I have rebuilt alternators with parts from Rotating Electrics. As long as windings are good renewing bearings and control box is straight forward.
