I have this small problem where the alternator light comes on in a morning for about a mile then goes out, the charge meter then goes up to 14 and is fine the rest of the day usually, I know this maybe oil in the alternator getting on brushes (300tdi), but the problem I require info on is sometimes on a morning the starter motor just clicks, I rock it in gear it will start, are the two connected in some way? does the alternator have some bearing on the starter motor.:scratching_chin:

Cheers in advance guys

The alternators output charges the battery via the +ve stud on the starter motor.

You could disconnect the battery leads from the battery then remove the wires from the starter motor and clean em up for a good connection. Might be worth checking and cleaning up your earth leads too.

Let us know how you get on............. remember to disconnect the battery leads from the battery first so you don't have a LIVE spanner hitting the chassis ;)
