Alternator renewal or upgrade fur a bigger one.
Ah noticed that my battery light wouldnt go off after ah started the bus until ah gave it some revs. Also noticed that the volt meter would only go up as far as 12 volts (sometimes less) when first startin. Once the bus was started and runnin the meter was readin around 13-14 volts.
Anyways, once ah took the alternator off the white bus ah set about takin the one off the green bus.
Its quite an easy job tae do.
Furst ah disconnected the battery .
then removed the air filter box and turbo hoses tae get at the alternator
then ah loosened the adjustin strap bolt
and removed the bolt from the alternator end
next ah removed the back and front bolts holdin the alternator on ..
took the belt off the pulley
and removed the alternator .
This is what has just come off
Ah noticed that the connector was a plug type which was different tae the Lucas one so cut it off and stuck some ring connectors on .
(this is what the Lucas one looked like when ah took it out of the white bus)
Then its just a case of stickin the new one in, loosely tighten the bolts, stick the belt back on, carefully use a lever to set the tension on the belt, tighten the bolts up, then stick the turbo hoses etc back on and reconnect the battery.
Heres some photies of it goin back in
Ah started the bus up and the battery light didnt stay on. Also noticed that the volt meter was nearer to 15 volts just on tick over. Then ah just checked the belt again to make sure nothin had slipped .
And thats it, job done
