Hello,
I just bought a 1997 Range Rover se 4.0 on eBay. It was delivered yesterday and I took my wife out to eat for our anniversary. We where almost to the restaurant when it died the alternator fat light came on and I could not get it started last night so I was forces to leave it at a store. I was wondering if I could take the battery out of my 2004 tahoe z71 put in the range rover to get it home 5miles at the most. Any help will be greatly appreciated since I have only had it for 2 days.

Thanks,
Nathan:doh:

Providing the battery terminal layout is the same, I can't see a problem for a 5 mile trip. Check that the alternator drive belt is not broken first. If it is, the engine will overheat quickly which is a recipe for disaster on V8.
check the alternator output at the battery. With the engine running at around 1500-2000 rpm you should be getting around 14 volts with a multimeter or an auto repair shop should be able to check it easily and quickly.
