Evening! just a quick question, i've doing a bit of re-wiring in a series 2a, it has been fitted with and alternator in the past but currently retains the voltage regulator.

Am i right in thinking that the voltage regulator is now redundant? I'd like to take it out as i'm trying to tidy up the birds nest of wires! :violin:

oh, and anyone know where the purple wire from the thingy goes??

if you want a wiring diagram i will email thru, is it posative earth or neg earth i have both let me know regards jim

what thingy you on about only 1 i can see is for interior light, if your on about the winggy thingy she is in the other room watchin telly

you know it has to be done!! your dead right on the purple wire though, goes to the interior light, well it would but there's no light fitting there anymore!!

I took the voltage regulator out of an Elf when i swapped from +ve earth dynamo to -ve earth alternator, yes it's redundant, but if you want to leave it in for looks you can simply swap a wire or two over and it acts as a nice little connector block for you.

Do you mean the charge light? Some alternators will not work without this connected if you didn't alrady know.

cheer's, i dint know that actually, i do have the charge light wired up though so i should be alright!! i got the bugger to fire up earlier so it apears to be wired up in some sort of sensible way, although i did have to jumper the starter solinoid but thats the next thing on the to sort list.......:brushteeth:
