I want to upgrade my tyres to BFG 235/70R16 A/T on steel modulars in black.
How do steel modulars compare to the original alloys?
Are they as good as alloys?
TIA

Depends what you mean by are they as good?
They both have good points and not so good points and depends what you are planning on using them for.

Steels look good on modded disco's. Alloys look better as standard.
Weight isn't an issue.
Generally strength won't be of any concern.
It's really whatever floats your boat.

Me I'm an alloy man.

I'm looking for 2nd set of wheels which are better/stronger for greenlaning.
And like the look of black steel wheels.

if its green laning then alloys will be fine, if severe off roading p&p etc then steels as theyre harder to bend ( i have bent one)

down to choice, im running black modulars at minute with a -32 offset cos they look better but thats my opinion.

The failure characteristics between a steel wheel and an alloy wheel are very different - large impacts will shatter an alloy wheel but will bend a steel wheel. The point being that a steel wheel, whilst bent is far more likely to hold air in the tyre than a shattered alloy wheel--- Also it *might* be possible to straighten a bent steel wheel, you can't straighten a cracked alloy.
There's often not a lot of difference in weight between the two.

As Snowman said, I think alloys look nice on a standard disco (compared to the standard steel wheels) but modular steel wheels look better on a modified disco.
