I have a 99 series II discovery V8 that wont start I think its the immobilser and the key fob wont work at all which means I cant disable the alarm I should point out there is nothing wrong with the key fob. typically this happened on a bank holiday so I have to wait till tomorrow to find out my EKA code hopefully this will solve the problem.

what I want to know is what causes this problem it hasnt happend before and how do I stop it from happening again

If the engine doesn't crank then its poss the engine immobilised and only till you disable the alarm (if it's active) the engine will be immobilised. So you can still lock and unlock with the fob?

Hi Telescopix,I've had that problem on my 03D2 but mine was a little worse as I couldn't open the door with the key (lock was broken internally). So I figured the actual car was immobilised as the dash red light was flashing every second. So I had an idea the fob was out of synch with the alarm and set about setting off the alarm by inserting a draincleaner (length of narrow flexible steel ) through window surround, wiggled it a bit for a couple of minutes and this set off the alarm (I assume your alarm works). This synched up the alarm to the fob and I was immediately able to deactivate the alarm and it worked again for months until it happened again and I just repeated the above. It happened sometime later and I set off the alarm by rocking the car by standing on the side steps and rocking the car by the roof bars. The neighbours might think your crazy, but it works. My guess is that after some time (in my case maybe more than a week) you could lose synch, but it never happened when in daily use. So you could give that a go,doesn't cost anything..
