Hi all,

Having a new issue with our 2001 Td5. Car unlocks as normal but immobiliser light is flashing quickly. When I put the key i the ignition and turn to the first position the lights on the dash all come on and start to extinguish as normal, but the oil and battery lights remain on. If I then turn the ignition to start the car it attempts to turn the engine over then fails and sets its alarms off.

Love my disco but am no mechanic; need it to be able to tow our horses to competitions. Please could people give me some ideas of where to start with this?!

Thanks in advance guys!

1. first of all replace the battery in the key-fob
2. if no improvement, when it does that trick push the unlock button on the fob again then try to start it... see what happens
3. if no joy with point 2 get near a nanocom or similar and disable passive immobilisation in BCU
4. if still no joy we'll speak again

Hi there,

Thanks for the message.

Update is as follows...

1 + 2 I had already tried to no avail unfortunately. Today I went out to her and found she wouldn't even unlock, so I unlocked her manually using the key in the door. Went to start and had no electrics at all, not even warning lights coming up. So I jump started it from the wife's Polo and she jumped into life straight away.

Did the normal, leave her running and took her for a spin, all seemed well. Now tries to start but can't (no alarms this time). Based on that I am assuming the battery is dead. However it was a new battery in spring this year?! I have ordered a replacement as it had a warrenty on it for the first two years... but do you think this indicates a more sinister electrcial issue that has drained the battery all of a sudden, or just a duff battery?

Also would the battery cause the alarm issues I had first off?

Thanks

yeas weak battery causes these kind of issues... after you fit the new battery masure the drain with ignition off with a clamp a-meter on the positive lead...if it exceedes 100mA there might be a drain...but if your battery is not a strong one it will not last long...u need a min 60AH and 900CCA battery to stay calm in UK... but if the winters will get colder the more AH it is the longer it will last...recommended is 110AH, as it was originally fitted
