So last night a 4am, the alarm goes off! Horn sounding continuously, and siren.

Off I went, clad in my protective dressing gown, outside...

No one to be seen, street appeared empty, no signs of entry, all doors and bonnet shut and Landy still locked. No signs of attempted break in looking in daylight either.

Does a 96 300tdi 110 have any kind of alarm diagnostics such as number of LED flashes?

If it was scallywags trying to be light on their feet with my defender, I hope they don't make a return visit :)

Security measures are in place....

its amazing how far someone could run in the few minutes it takes you to get outside.
be very wary, they may have been setting the alarm off deliberately to see if a) it has an alarm, and b) what happens if it goes off - does anyone come etc. and c) they may set it off repeatedly in the hope you get fed up and disable it.

Take precautions. May be nothing, faulty bonnet sensor or something but proceed carefully

My thoughts exactly - they could have been fairly close by, hiding behind a car... I run out, with the keys in my hand, not fully awake.....

The alarm hasn't gone off since.

Yeah, be careful. I've heard of them playing the long game. Keep doing that until you don't put it on. They keep doing it until one night they can't set it off. Then they take the vehicle.
Do you have the alarm with an internal sensor?

No internal sensor, no tilt sensor either, so I can't work out how or why it went off :(
tracker required.....

Mines a 96 300Tdi and it has a sensor on the b pillar above the driver's shoulder. Mines a CSW, I wonder if that's the difference? Is yours?

Ah - didn't look behind me :) hang on.....

*runs outside......

Oh! Yes, internal sensor :)

Not sure how sensitive they are. Might have had a big fly or bee in? :)

They probably need aw22 stone silverback running around in there to sound the alarm :)

No more alarms so far, but typically, I was drunk last night, and forgot to put the physical security on until 2 am this morning - good job I needed a wee....

Mines a '96 300Tdi CSW and after a long cool spell on a hot day some flies appeared to set mine off once. Not sure how active flies would be at 4am though? Maybe a spider or something could have crawled near/over it?

My alarm goes off if I hit one of the rear sliding windows just harder than dead weight with a closed fist, found this out when I was wedging some foam to stop the windows rattling, scared the poop out of me. At least I know the sensors are working!
