Good evening,

Was just sat down with my good lady wife and the car alarm started going off, it's never done that before. I went to check it out with the key, the alarm cancelled, there is no sign of anyone gaining entry, nor has any of the dash been tampered with.

Upon inspection, the dash lights are coming on, as if the key is in the ignition and in position2. Put the key in and it starts fine, and turns off fine, but the lights stay on.

After the key is removed, sometimes the lights go out but the car warns when trying to lock it with a horn sounds (as if the door is open).

I'm confused  any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Ah good point, 'tis a TD5, 2001.

I've just been out and removed all the FL fuses one by one in the engine bay and the dash lights stay on. Just trying to find out the source so I can leave it overnight secure without the alarm going off.

Just been out to try FL1,2,3 or 4 and the lights were off so I've closed the bonnet and locked all the doors manually. When locking the drivers door with the key the horn beeps once, does this indicate there is a problem or the alarm is set?

Many thanks in advance

it's a misslock warning which means that the bonnet , driver's door or one of the other doors/taidoor is not closed well or the door switch doesnt work and stays closed, the alarm will be armed but you must find where it's the misslock coming from...usually and most commonly from the bonnet but it could be from any of them... you can find it with the following trick:
1. for the bonnet, leave the bonnet open, all doors closed, push down the switch with your hand, lock with the fob then release the switch...if the alarm will not sound then that's the guilty one...if it'll go off the bonnet switch is ok
2. leave the windows open, lock with key(not with fob, to leave the volumetric alarm unarmed) open the driver's door through the window... again if it goes off this door is ok
3. repeat move 2 on the passenger's door...ikf the alarm will not go off the problem is on one of those doors/taildoor cos all the doors except the driver's are connected together, read the partial arming sequence and you must understand:

Partial arming
Partial arming allows protection of as much of the vehicle as possible if the alarm is armed with one or more doors or
the bonnet open.
Partial arming allows the vehicle alarm to be armed even if the following conditions exist. When the bonnet or door is
closed, the BCU activates the perimetric alarm and the volumetric alarm after 15 seconds have elapsed:
- The bonnet is not closed: If the bonnet is open when the alarm is armed, the BCU activates super locking and
volumetric sensing. In this condition, the alarm enters a partially armed state. All other functions of the alarm are
active and the BCU monitors the bonnet for a change of state. If the bonnet closes, the system is completely
armed.
- The passenger door, a rear door or the tail door is not closed: If a door is open when the alarm is armed, the BCU
does not activate super locking or volumetric sensing. In this condition the alarm enters a partially armed state.
All other alarm functions are armed and the BCU monitors the open door. If the door closes volumetric sensing
and super locking become active.
- Failure of a door latch switch: If a short circuit in the door latch switch occurs, the BCU presumes the door is not
closed. In this situation the BCU does not activate super locking or volumetric sensing. All other alarm functions
are armed.
- Damaged wiring harness: If a short circuit in the wiring harness for the door latch switch occurs, the BCU
presumes the door is not closed and does not activate super locking or volumetric sensing; all other alarm
functions are armed. If an open circuit in the wiring harness for the door latch switch occurs, the BCU presumes
the door is closed and arms the alarm as normal.

Same problem with mine. Water damage in the circuit board in the back of the fuse box under the dashboard.
