Normally the system is emptied as said, and checked under vacuum. Alternatively it's part charged with a dye and inspected. It's a waste to fully charge a system without diagnosing it properly. There are plenty of places that'll charge the system no questions asked.. It's inexpensive yes until you back a week later and do it all again.
A proper check isn't cheap but will find any real issues. Cheap isn't always best.
I haven’t checked fuses, I can’t find which one I need to check, and how I can check if there is gas in the systemIs there any gas in the system, does the pump engage? Have you checked fuses and relays?
Some more info would be a good start, what have you checked already?
