I've not logged on since 2005, in fact I've been playing with Jaguars for a while and ran a 1972 diesel Series 3 for a while, whilst renovating a Listed Building, so didn't really have much to share with the Forum. I missed the joys of range Rover ownership and now have time and resources to dip back into the pond ! I have been suitably chastised for being away for so long and advised to post the thread in the Range Rover area. So anyway, I buy a P.38 and hey presto, problems, this is more of a share that a request for assistance, as I'm determined to crack the problem myself and share my progress or lack of it with the forum! I recently bought a 1996 TD P.38 which sat a shade low on the nsr, I drove it home and it maybe dropped a shade lower and the osf was certainly high, so I had a diagonal tilt. I swapped the front sensors across to use 'virgin' track on the potentiometers and this slightly improved the situation. Fired by my apparent success, I had a shot at flipping the rear sensors over. The bolts were tight and the captive nuts came loose in the plastic casing. They eventually came away using a touch of brute force. I swapped them across and the system went crazy :(. Swapped them back and no joy, it jiffled about a bit and then sort of gave in. The truck now sits with the nearside up, the off side down and despite the lights cycling, the system does nothing, not even self level. I've tried the basic EAS Kicker Lite and it clears the stored faults, but of course won't reveal the fault. The factory workshop manual isn't of much assistance and I now await the software to talk to the system and recalibrate the sensors. I managed to flatten the battery and the radio code isn't in the document wallet, so any guidance on that matter would be welcome :(. All in all, it's Frank Spencer, The 3 Stooges and Norman Wisdom rolled into one here, but I thought I'd start a thread as it's cathartic to reveal my ineptitude/stupidity to the brotherhood of the green oval ! Have I killed it or have I just upset a sensor. Watch this space !

Pete :)

Oh dear Pete never mind try checking air bag and pipes for n/s for air leaks soapy water and a squirty, all a can say for sensors is drop it to bump stops put it all back how it was give it a re kick and try again if not diagnostics needed for it to drop must mean a leak somewhere .

Pre 1998 sensors are not swappable side to side. 94 to 97 sensors are handed and can only be used in their correct position. 1998 on are not handed and can be used at either side.

You need the EAS software and cable:D My bet would be leaking airsprings, not sensors, easy enough job, look at the the guide in the "How To" section at the top.
Cable & Cd with the EAS software £11 plus P&P:)

You already have the wisest of the wise helping with the EAS issue,so,regarding the radio code:Remove it and note the serial number and model number,go to a site called radio code it,might be all one word.Put in said numbers and you will get your radio code sent to your e-mail in an hour or so,free!!!:welcome2:

Hard luck, or maybe your price included postage? How long is the cable? Mine is 2 metres, plenty of length to work outside the car.
Don't like to keep mentioning it, don't want to get accused of spamming:)
CD also has my airbag replacement guide and a copy of RAVE covering Defender, P38 and early L322:)

But I can mention it without getting accused of spamming coz I'm a mere customer. The cable is 2m long so you can work outside the car and CHEAP!!! Quick delivery too considering it had to pass the French blockades (assuming the French will be picketing some port somewhere)

Thanks, I will drop it and retrace my steps as I'm in a hole with the spade poised to keep on digging ! The corner that was low is now high and staying there, but I agree a check for geneal leakage is a sound move. Hopefully I'll be back with good news later on today.

All the best

Pete

Thanks Wammers, taken on board, I will apply jump leads to the grey lump that keeps my ears apart and pitch in when the sun shows itself. Fingers crossed !

Thanks, will drop to the stops, put everything back where it's supposed to be and report back. Then I think I'll go and play with the MGB and replace the front dampers, no electronics there !

I am greatly obliged for all the sage words on the EAS issues and equally obliged for the pointer on radio codes. I will report back, hopefully with good news later on today !

Thanks again

phone your local LR dealer they can give you the radio code, and sit down for
this bit for free :bounce:

dont waste your time going on ebay as you will get a cable only half the size datatec will supply and you will only get the software to do your air suspension whereas datatec will give the rave also :( i got roasted... my cable is only a few feet long

Doing the height changes sat in your car, then getting out to measure is slightly unproductive. They need to be done from outside so get the longest lead you can. :):)
