Hi all - I had the blend motors / orings replaced in my 4.6 at the tail-end of last year. Since then, I have had an increasingly common (ie daily) fault in which the chequebook sign (sorry, I mean hand-book sign) appears in the HEVAC display, with the fault being that the air distribution buttons don't change the airflow at all (although they light up). The chap that fitted the blend motor suggested that it's probably the HEVAC unit itself, so I have bought a replacement but not had time to fit. My question is, are the blend motors the same units that control the air distribution, or do they just control the hot/cool air blend from left to right in the car? Or do they control the actual air distribution too, regardless of air temperature settings? The book symbol comes on pretty much immediately after starting the car if that's any help. I've actually gone from loving my RR to hating it - I've spent more money on this thing than I ever did on my Alfa - who says Italian cars are the most unreliable?! Thanks for any help.

There are 3 blend motors, 2 control the hot/cold function for each side, the 3rd one controls the distribution, up down etc.

Its sounds as if either the blend motor is faulty or the flaps are sticky/stuck. if its the later, I don't imagine the blend motor will last long trying to drive against it,as they only have plastic gears inside.

I thinks its unlikely to be the HEVAC unit, but as you have one, it doesn't hurt to try it and find out.

Was the work done at a garage, if so thier work should be warrantied, so throw it back at them to sort out.

if i remember rightly 2 out of 3 of the blend motors aren't bad to get too, who knows where the distribution flap motor is? and is it one of the easier ones to change? i dont get that much air down and it dont close of the demist (up) at all! think this is what brings up my cheque book, but only on cold days?????
sorry to have hijacked the thread............

ive got the exact same problem with mine. is there any easy way or dislodging the flap to see if it corrects itself?
thanks

You can try going from fully open to fully closed on the temp. flaps or hot to cold (Or vice versa) a few times-you should hear the motors running. This will drive them through the full range of travel. Failing that, get someone with diagnostics to try and force and calibrate them. If that fails, then the blend(s) are shot.
Question-when you had them replaced, did you have all 3 done or just the faulty one and kept the two spares. Were they new or second hand??
