Hi there,
I am going to fit a new td4 freelander air con compressor to my 300 tdi disco as an air compressor. Does anyone have any clue as to which of the connections on the pump are the air inlet & outlet side. What type of pipe connections are used on this pump. Have been to James Edwards Chester (About as much use as a choc fire guard!) Pump SADEN PXV16 model No 8622.
Will run pump from spare belt pulley (not having air con fitted to my disco) and activated via 12v switch in cab to enguage electro clutch. Pump only running when required. Air receiver will have auto pressure switch fitted.
Please advise,
Many regards, Steve ALCO262

ah think it dint matter which way round you fit yer pipes as it should pump in either direction. can you not just use one of them 12 leccy compressors

What are we going to use this compressed air for, might one ask?

Hi there,

Thanks for your interest. Being an engineer by trade the disco is fully prepared for anything that can be thrown its way whilst camping and green lane driving (all in 316 stainless). She frequently goes off road coupled to Sankey trailer packed to the hilt. We also carry three kayak's on the roof rack as well as two three man infalable kayak's. Coupled with all the air beds and tyre pressure infateing and de-flateing a small 12v compressor (portable) is just too small. As I have a brand new TD4 compressor lying around and no air con fitted to my disco seems the 'Logical approach Jim'!

One the roof rack will be situated the reservior.

Regards,

Steve.

Hmmmm..... the air-con compressor might not pump a lot of air though. It is designed to pump small volumes of refrigerant gas to a modest pressure so that when cooled it condenses.

I would like to know if it pumps a decent volume of air.
