had only a small amount of pressure coming out of oulet on the pump and couldnt feel any suction on the inlet.
took the pump apart and piston seal was shredded and had a small scratch on the liner so i replaced it all.

its all fitted back together and put pack in car.
tested it and its still doing the same thing. can cover the outlet pipe and from what im told, i shouldnt be able to do that.

dont understand whats wrong. its gotta be the pump.

what part is the reed valve.

i was in a rush when it was fitted, gonna fully check over it in morning but is the valve a part that can be replaced??

There are two stainless steel reed valves in the pump head. They look like shortpieces of of feeler guage. They can be replaced if you can get hold of them.prehaps out of a scrapped pump. One of them has a o ring underneath it and this can be replaced.

omg im such a prat!!!!!

just found the hex screw sitting on my table. its the screw that goes in the side of the pump so you can accsess the piston screw.
its been left of so im guessing its not working cause of this.

omg i blame the mrs. rushing me!!!!! lol

i will screw it back in the pump tomorrow and try again. hopefully this will work.

Having gone through a compressor rebuild just last Monday I was going to suggest that :)
Be very carefull when installing that screw, because if it isn't properly seated it won't lock the shaft to the counterweight and it will rotate freely (for extra points, guess how I found out )

Also, if you can get hold of a 12v AC adapter you can jump the compressor on your workbench (there are 3 leads coming from the compressor, use the 2 larger ones, the 3rd is for the thermal shutdown).

its not the screw that holds the piston down its the screw that blocks the access hole to the screw that locks the piston in place. surely this not being in place would cause problems with suction????

No not at all. The piston will just suck air in through that hole instead of the filter. Sounds like you have a duff reed valve in the head or a bit of **** under one. If the piston seal has broken up you may also have debris inside the valve block this could be a problem if it fouls one of the NRVs. Take out the reed valves and check them make sure they are sealing properly. If you change the O' ring stick it in with a little silicone. Stick a little thread lock on the screws when you put them back in.

took the pump out this morning and sorted what i thought was the problem. put it back in car and still doing the same this. it did lift the car after a long time waiting but when trying a second time it did nothing, also noticed the pump turned off after a while. this normal??
been told there is a few cut off switches on the pump and been shown how to test them but could the switches be the problem???

once again there is suction and there is air coming out of outlet but not at high pressure.
cleaned reed valve out and fitted new o ring but dont seemed to of helped at all.

Take the exhaust silencer out. When pump stops there should be a hiss of air as the pump unloads. If it stops and the is no air discharge you have a problem. If the pump is stopping because it's too hot it should be very hot to touch. There is a thermal switch in the pump 67L120 it shuts the pump down if 120 degrees are exceeded and starts it up again when it has cooled to 85 degrees. Not easy to replace though. The compressor is low volume so it will take a few seconds time to build pressure at the outlet before it blows your finger off, but it should do that. If it does not force air past your finger something is wrong with it.

well after the pump shut off i could pick it up with out it burning me. was warm but not hot.
round part where the motor spins was warm but box where the piston is was hot. not that hot tho. double what the motor was i would say.

i think i can see the exhaust, white round thing on the outside of box near back of box next to the air lines????
cant see how it comes out tho.

Exhaust silencer (the white round thing on the outside of EAS box) just unscrews by hand. The filter on the silencer can get gumped up if not changed and cause slight back pressure if your really unlucky. So if it looks iffy change it and as the lads have already said it should discharge air when compressor stops.
