Hi, for a while I have been looking for a landy project, I am retired so was looking for something to tinker with,
Yesterday I bought a 1960. 88, station wagon, it is a project , but a friend thinks it’s to good, yes to good for someone like me to do, the chassis needs welding, but he says because the car is so straight and original it should be done properly.
What I am asking is not for someone to come and buy it, but anyone local with experience to come and give me a second opinion. So anyone fancy a coffee.

First piece of advice is get out of nuneaton I wouldnt trust any nuneaton or cov garage with welding you've either got main dealers which wont touch it or dodgy backsteeet places round that way, trust me i grew up 6 miles from nuneaton and have worked in numerous garages across the nuneaton/cov area so I know what their like

infield 4x4 is not far away is just outside of ashby de la zouch towards coalville, land rover speciallist and they do do welding qouted me around £80 for a small patch half a foot long on my old td5 discovery's chassic as an example of costs

Why's it too good for you to do? Are you experienced mechanically/can weld? I would understand if a heritage etc but unless I'm being totally ignorant it's no different to any other series really? Half the reason for getting a landy is to get dirty hands and scraped knuckles surely... like you say, as a project. Maybe I just wouldn't like being told it's too good for me to put my greasy mitts on haha. Whatever you do, looks a nice buy and I hope you enjoy it and retirement Phil!

Hi Resto.
Thanks for replying, I have now Had the car for 24 hrs ,
The chap who surgested this was being over the top, just being a bit of a tut tutter if you know what I mean.
It’s 58 years old and is as it come out of the factory in 1960 with just a couple of owners.
I am now looking forward to doing it my self, I have ordered a sand blaster off eBay and will give it a good going over underneath, I am prepared to buy a new chassis if needed, I will keep updating on landyzone.

Brilliant. Continue updating this one as you go if you have time etc. It's always useful to use as a log and look back plus you will get so much useful advice off the gurus on here! Good luck with the project. Look forward to seeing some pictures!

I live not far from junction 11 of the M42 if that's any help. I've got a 2a in bits at the mo

Hi Resto, Well looks like I have a busy time ahead, think it’s a new chassis job,
As I can’t weld , wife not happy with our new look back Garden, we have wings, doors, and roofs growing, where we had flowers, mmmmm

might be worth learning to weld - may seem daunting but once you have basics it's just practice. I've learnt for my resto. You'll get so many pointers on here too

Good show, nice to see it coming apart quite easily, personally I would go for a new galvanised chassis as a matter of course.

Nice set of parabolics on it and maybe a new galv bulkhead from Ashtree services and you'll have a Landy that won't need a much work work for a long time to come.
