Heyup Everybody I am new to this site. I am in the process of buying a freelander but not sure which model?? and would like some first hand abvice if poss? I have a budget of around 4.5 to 5k,I do on average 150-200 miles /wk. Ideally I had me heart set on a td4 hardback due to diesels being more economic, but looking through mags etc I am led to believe petrols are cheaper and therefore would be able to get a later model for my money.
Do I do enough miles to worry about fuel costs?? what is the mpg for the different models? i have got guide books that tell me this but are these trustworthy?
I would prefer post 2000 reg but really am open to owt as the moneys burning a hole in my pocket.
I dont do any offroading I am just in love with the model and ignore my mates who tell me if i am so worried about fuel costs then dont get a 4x4! What do they know? love is blind!

Any advice bias/unbiased, pros/cons would gratefully be appreciated!

Cheers.

if you can purchase it with a warrenty it could be worth it in the long run, or you might have to dig deep,

I run a petrol version and do about 250m a week wth no problems

dont buy a petrol unless yu have to and then ONLY with a warranty - some peeps have good ones - but its a big risk. As a rule - Freelander = Diesel.

I cover between 250 and 300 miles per week. My petrol 1.8 is averaging 29MPG. (I drive at 60 for long periods on country roads, and then about 5 miles in town traffic)

for £44 or £46 I can do about 345 miles and then the tank is very empty (pointer in red section)

My car covered 98K before the cylinder head gasket failed. This was because the previous owner ignored a coolant leak and drove it dry. I have rebuilt with the latest Land Rover multi layer gasket which is designed not to fail. 8K on and its running well.

With either budget for some repairs (as with any car). I would keep a grand tucked away just in case.

Regards

Steve

yep ... i love my petrol . still brought it even tho ive read the horror storys.
mine had FSH and the head done by LR . i know its right.. there are still some goodens to have but bare in mind 400 miles on a full tank of petrol
not the most economical. but so what!!! enjoy !!!!!:D

Nice one and cheers everybody! I will bare your comments in mind whilst in the process of buying.
Can any td4 owner tell me first hand what approx mpg is for theirs?

Thanks again as your comments go a lot deeper than most buyers guides etc.;)

p.s.I will keep ya posted on my choice(if anyones interested?)
