i am a novice in the Land Rover world and have a question for you intelligent enthusiasts!
I have a '87 Land Rover 90 with a 200tdi conversion. There is a rattling noise which sounds like a penny in a tin can which comes from under the passenger seat. I believe it is a problem with the exhaust. Is this likely to be the case? It is worst when in low revs. forgive my ignorance but what part would I need and can I replace it myself? Does the engine type have a bearing on the part I need? Thanks in advance!

It depends on what exhaust the builder put on it for the parts. Check the downpipe has been changed for a modified one and is not touching the bulkhead. Get under it and have a look, not much on an exhaust you could not do.

Also check that the bolts on the joints are still there, and that the mounting brackets are solid.

Thanks gents, I found it. It was an exhaust rubber but having fixed that I have found that the intermediate pipe has sheared which is why it had come loose. Oh well could be worse!
