Hi,

I'm new to all this landyzone and new to buying a Freelander so...

Just wondering if anyone can help,
I want to buy a Freelander Diesel about 2000 - 2003 Reg.
Any common faults or advice you can give for me to look out for when im buying one?

Whats the ideal one to have a Freelander 1 or 2??

Thank you :)

Hi .... go for late as reg as possible .... a TD4 ......... early ones have twin pumps and double trouble ( I know I have got one). Faults are listed on the forum. However my pet hate is leaking tail gate .. apparntly most leak mine does and you get a wet tool box
(pardon the pun). VCU most elederly ones need this replacing. IRD listen for excessive noise and look for oil leaks. If it does not start 1st hit from cold walk away.
Re freelander 2 don't know..... saw somewhere that some have a rear diff issue.......
Cheers
Richard

i have a early L series and i have had less engine problem than with my old TD4. also the early ones is cheaper tax.

as for IRD VCU faults they all get them.

everyone will have there own say on whats best one but IMO i prefer the early L series and i bought a 2000 model so the last of the early ones as 2000-2001 is the start of the TD4

also there could be a good chance that the early ones with them being older might have had more problems like the VCU/ird fixed already where as a newer one could still have some problems to come altho this is not always the case

FL2's are from 2006 onward TD4 2.2
Facelift FL1's late 2003 to 2006 TD4 2.0
FL1's TD4 2001 onward
FL1's L series up to 2001

Don't touch a petrol model!!!
