hi everyone,

i have to buy a few parts for my 300tdi, and don't really know where to buy them, have looked on paddocks etc but they have all these 'i think' model numbers next to them and don't know which relates to my landy.

firstly need to double check whether it is a 300tdi or not... could someone tell me how to check?

i have the following problems -

drop arm ball joint is worn
o/s track rod end is worn
rear prop u/j is worn
rear brake pads worn
A frame ball joint is worn.
drive belt

so i am assuming that i need the following -

drop arm ball joint
o/s track rod end
rear prop u/j'S
rear brake pads
and an 'a'a frame ball joint.
drive belt

as i am hoping to do most, if not all the work myself, could anyone let me know on dificulty of the above and if anything is particularly difficult. at work we have jacks etccc so that aint a prob. and i have a haynes manual.

p.s sorry if my posts have all been questions, hopefully one day i can give others advice too!

any help would be much appreciated!

thank you

ed

lrseries.com is worth a look. They seem to describe the parts better. I got my landy in April and you will get lots of help here. If you want to use the 'search' at the top of the screen you can often find what you are looking for. IanNotts is a member on here and supplies parts...
Step by step guides on doing your own repairs can be searched... if you go into the 'forum' tab at the top you will find Bustersbus guide to doing repairs with good pics and tips.

I will try and do some jobs myself... I worked out that by doing my own shocks it would pay for a high lift 4x4 jack and axle stands from Halfords (gets good ratings)
I found that everything I touch is seized solid (I am old and weak)... get some GT85 spray lubricant (good stuff), an impact driver, a 'plumbers' type gas heat torch, a Bosch grinder/cutter for £20 off Amazon, good socket set and a feckin big hammer:)

The members on here are a wealth of info and experience... search before you ask as it has often been done before... good luck and welcome. Fill in your profile about your Landy and put pics on. A picture tells a thousand words.

Looks pretty good. Not so sure about the price they are asking for a brand new alternator though:

AMR4247 ALTERNATOR A127/100 | Defender 1985>: Major Units | shop | www.lrseries.com | L. R. Series

On whether you're engine is/isn't what you think it is; post some pics of your engine bay.
I did and got knocked over on discovering my 'TD5' was a 300 TDI! :D
