Hello all. My other half and I broke up over Christmas and I have been left with the Land Rover Defender 110 I bought three years ago. It's a 2000 model, TD5, County (I think). I'm just about to put it through its MOT (needs a new windshield) and then I need to sell it as, sadly, I cannot maintain it myself. My advice is to ask what to do and the best place to sell it. It has a squeak at the moment which I'm told is a drive shaft. I don't know whether I'm best off selling it and taking the hit on how much that might cost to replace, or getting it done myself and then selling it. I paid £10,500 for it and it's probably had a good £5,000 work done on it since then but, at this point, I just need it gone. Any advice on my best place to sell it would be appreciated.

That looks nice, provided it’s not rotten underneath i reckon that’s still worth near £10k

Squeak could be a propshaft, even if you replaced it would be less than £100 for the front or about £200 for a rear one. Easy for any garage to do, doesn’t need to be a specialist.

Thanks for the response. It’s definitely not rotten as that was part of the £5k I first paid for it. I will take it to my local Landy garage for MOT and see if they can sell it as they have loads of contacts. As much as I love it. I need a cheaper car to maintain and run and don’t need such a beast on my own!
 
Get it professionally valeted and then get some really good photo's of it posted on Autotrader/Gumtree/eBay etc, and put a high price on it with OVNO and see who bites, I would be looking to get about £14,500 for a tidy 110 station wagon like that.

:eek: Wow, not from me for a 20 year old defender no matter how tidy it appears on top.....seen people initially asking up to 15k for late td5's but a majority are dropped by around 5k if not more to actually make a sale.

Anyway good luck with the sale, nothing wrong with trying a high price but definitely give it a good scrub.

Don't ask, don't get ;)

Prices have levelled out I must admit but at the same time they are still sought after and you never know who might come knocking for it.
 
Before you approach a garage or trader, make sure you know what it’s worth. Look on eBay classifieds, autotrader and the LRO classifieds section for prices. Set the price a bit higher so you don’t lose out. And definitely don’t under sell it. Station wagons hold their value.

A professional valet is money well spent. Get the driveshaft issue fixed and any other niggles and issues so that you don’t get haggled down.

If you’ve already spent £5kmon it, I’d suggest it’s in good condition already. How about getting a Td5 90 to replace it if you need a smaller vehicle?
 
Don't eggscept anything the garage offers like selling it on yer behalf etc untill yer discussed it with us first.
 
It’s worth trying We Buy Any Car et al if you wanted a quick sale, they can be quite generous with Defenders. My mate took his old td5 to them and they gave him more than he was expecting from any private sale. At least worth a look.
