Hello!
Ive recently purchased a 2007 Freelander 2, very happy with everything so far, however the only thing id like to upgrade is the stereo. The only way to get my own audio working is through a bluetooth>aux adaptor at the moment.

Ive fitted Joying and other chinese units to other vehicles in the past, but in the freelander 2, which would be best to upgrade, the GPS screen, or the actual double din radio unit?

If i add an Android touch screen in one of them... The other one becomes a little pointless.

If i was to upgrade the double din unit... Do i have any options what i can do/replace the built in GPS unit with? Or Vice/Versa.

Has anybody fitted one of the 10inch touch screen units in the radio double din? Did overlap any controls?

Will i lose any functionality of the car by swapping out the radio unit? or/and gps?

Do i need to get a new/different amp too?

Thanks for your help guys!

You’ll lose parking sensor audio and Bluetooth and sound if you remove the factory setup - I’m sure it’s possible to overcome these but it won’t be cheap

Thanks for the info, is that the same result if I replace either the GPS or the Radio? (Or just radio)

The only one I'm bothered about keeping is the parking sensors ideally

Parking sensor audio is supplied by the factory HU, so replacing that will remove the parking sensors sound. It's not easy to mess about with modern audio system as there's a fair amount of integration onto other systems these days.

When you say factory HU. Do you mean the whole thing, or just the radio unit section?

EG, if i replace/update the GPS unit, and leave the old radio in to ensure i get the audio for parking sensors, i could live with that.

I'm not sure. I believe the screen and audio system are linked, which means messing with one unit could well affect the other. All modern vehicles use data bus communication to different modules, so removing one can have adverse effects on other modules in the system. The system wasn't designed for after market modification, so doing so generally messes up the systems which are all linked.

Curiously, this loss of parking sensors seems not to be the case with the F1. Or perhaps there is a dedicated buzzer on the F1?

I just replaced my stock factory fitted double din radio/6 cd player unit with an aftermarket Chinese radio sat nav unit I bought off Amazon in a lightning deal for £79.99.

To be honest I’m a complete duffer when it comes to auto electrics and I didn’t fancy cutting into the existing wiring harnesses so I bought a harness adapter for £9.99 at my local retail park outlet and found that my reversing sensors still sound in fact the only thing that doesn’t work is my steering wheel controls, though a new handheld remote control is supplied to supplement the touchscreen, and the door tweeters.

Oh, and l haven’t fitted the reversing camera as Im a little unsure as how to get a feed for it duffer that I am.

Nonetheless I’m really pleased with my new 7” touchscreen radio sat nav with Bluetooth, USB and micro SD connectivity. Such an improvement over the stock audio unit.
