Hi I’m new to the landrover scene and I’m going to be replacing my 1987 station wagon rear window seals but want to remove the whole frame to give it a re-furb and clean the glass properly but I can’t get the rubber off covering the rivits ??

Hi , the rubber should pull off the ali frame once you lift the edge/joint, you can then drill out the rivets. Think a Company called Masai have a how to on their site, maybe even on youtube.

I’ve had a look at this but for some reason mine doesn’t have the rubber to pull off? It’s as if the rubber is holding the windows in place ??

From what your saying and what I can see from your pictures they maybe held in like rubber mounted windscreens where the rubber has a groove that sits on the metal cutout, to remove would require you to push in one corner of the rubber from the inside to unhook it from metal and slowly work along top, once top and side is unhooked you can normally lift out , two people one in one out is best in case unit drops out and rubber seal may have mastic or silicon around it to form water tight seal, beware metal edge maybe sharp and possibly may need to replace rubber seal depending on age/condition

Thankyou so much for your help/advice do you know what window rubber I will need to replace it with ? So I have it ready to be fitted straight back please

Simple answer to that is no, every manufacturer uses a different profile, you could try Rimmer Bros or somewhere like CBSonline who do different profiles for kitcar builders, you could if you feel confident even change it for a similar profile i.e size wise which slots in then you insert a chrome trim in a groove on the outer edge to lock it in place like the old mini windscreens, in fact that may be a suitable alternative which casn be bought by the metre, incidently the trick for putting back in is to place around glass then get a length of waxed string and insert it in groove that sits over metal edge. place rubber into lower edge and while someone pushes from outside you pull ends of string on inside which pulls rubber over over metal edge working your way round outer edge until all fitted., just remember to keep hold of both ends of string and grease rubber with washing up liquid of silicon grease to make it supple
