hey there
my car is 2 door-v8-red engine-4wd all time- 1979 model- 2 barrel carb.
and i am really confused here but are these specs match the amc360
engine or the amc401engine.

and what if i want to modify the electrical ignition system. i looked
around and i found the msd products which i am conviced of. but i found
out that i have to change the manifold and then the carb 2 a 4 cam one
and its getting very confusing...

if any one could help, i would be greatfull...

Here is a site that will help you ID your engine:

You might want to check out these folks. I'll bet there is a simple way
to upgrade the ignition....

I have owned a 1979 J20 Jeep for over 20 years now. There never was a
401 2 bbl so you have a 360 and never say a 401 4bbl in a 79 Cherokee
either. As far as changing over to a 4bbl, you will need to replace
intake and carb and thats it is you want to keep it simple. This mod is
good for about 30 or 40HP on the 360 and you will notice it a lot above
3000 RPM. Still I would keep below 4500 RPM because you will be past
your power peak by then and making less HP by winding it further. AMC
360's are their strongest in low to mid range RPM's. The Tcase you have,
The Borg Warner Quadratrac is a sturdy unit too but make sure you
change the fluid in it every 20k miles or so.
