Hi everyone, I'm new here but have heard great things about the LZ forum so thought I'd see if I can get some advice... I'm looking to get a 4x4 to tow a horse trailer with, and currently don't have a big budget. Various people have recommended Discoveries/RR/Defenders and I wondered what you thought? I can't really spend more than £3k at the moment, the less the better, and the requirements are only that it can pull 2 horses in a trailer and that it works.
I won't be going any great distances with the trailer (probably only 15 mins to an hour drive time once or twice a fortnight) and also sometimes using it for a 6 mile commute. I don't mind how old/ropey looking the vehicle is as long as it's pretty sound to run. I have no idea about all the different models or which to avoid so any advice would be so helpful.

I also wondered about LPG conversions for the sake of saving fuel?

I'm near Canterbury in Kent if there's anyone local who knows of a suitable vehicle!

Thanks!

Hi there, :welcome2: I will try to answer your questions....I have owned a few RR and Disco's. Either would be fine for your needs, for around 3k you should get a good Disco, RR seem to be on the up value wise. The last RR I had was lpg, it felt very good power wise, I just found it a pain at the lpg pump (if I could find one back then)...and make sure it has a certificate. I had a few issues with it switching from petrol to lpg, but most parts are cheap enough on the system. The diesel Disco I have now has good mpg and good pulling power. For either model the standard checks apply when buying...service history a must, If you see my pic (td5) I paid just over 3k. I'm sure you could find one a little cheaper, and maybe pay a bit extra for an aa inspection for peace of mind. Rust is the worst enemy on most Land Rovers. I'm sure someone with a fender will let you know how good/bad they are.
Cheers.
