Have a good look at the chasis, especially the outriggers, if they appear fairly non existant then you may be in for some replacments in the near future.
Get a diesel, the engine should then give you less trouble and be easier to sort out.
Check the bulkhead, from inside the engine bay and outside just below where it meets the windscreen.
Check out both gearboxes, and drive on them both.
When you do get it, get the timing belt replaced
