Is it possible to get standard hight adjustable shocks for the defender 90? It's a 93 200Tdi. I want to take the edge off the ride. The Car had new springs and shocks fitted last year by the previous owner.

I've had a look on the net but can only find adjustable shocks with a 5" lift. Have I missed somthing?

I have the Terrafirma 4-way adjustable shocks on my 110 TD5
I also fitted them to our old 90 TD5

They have four settings, the softest gives a better ride quality.
The adjustment is on the shock body so you need to go under the vehicle to alter them.

They do standard height and also ones with various degrees of lift.
Price is around £250 for 4. They seem good quality, mine have done over 30,000 miles and are still fine.

It would be worth checking what springs were fitted. You can get adjustable shocks, as mentioned above, but if the PO fitted too high a rated spring they are not going to make a difference. You can get several different load ratings of springs depending on vehicle usage and you can also get progressive springs giving a best of both. If you are looking to take the edge off the ride I would look for some OEM station wagon springs as from memory these are the lowest rated and therefore the most comfortable for an empty/lightly loaded defender.

I fitted these today, whoever at TF designed the pin lengths deserves a right kicking in the tates.
You really have to work hard to get a bite on the threads.

Cheers

Yes you do.

I gave up and used two of the original washers from the old shocks, as they are thinner.

Did you find that the Land Rover is better with these dampers fitted?

Only drove it on the mway so far and it was full of tools, So will take it for a blast this afternoon and am at aP&P next week, so will be able to provide feedback then.
I willl be changing the front setting to see how that affects the ride as well. currently on 2 all around and the front seems a little harsh on places where the road has been repaired badly.

Still cannot believe how badly designed the thread length is.

Cheers

I think it’s the bushes that are a bit too big, once you get them fitted it’s fine, and you end up with it looking similar to the OE.

Try it with all four on 1.
Setting 2 is equivalent to standard dampers, 3 and 4 are firmer (than standard)
