Just popped into my local parts shop and with a bit of head scratching, he came up with this..
He wasn't too convincing!
Will it be ok to use?

No get down your local LR dealer and get proper ace fluid.

Given the price of fixing ACE I'd use the proper stuff.

My steering pump failed recently and the indie who replaced it reckoned one of the reasons was that it had been previously filled with ATF.

i dont think its likely and that he actually knows ,pump is basically a 300 tdi pump and they ran ok on atf

I didn't think D1 had ACE?

no but it had pas which was what iansoady had fail
