Just picked up a D2 TD5
Ace pump has been removed but the rest of the ACE system is still there....

If the ACE bars are still there but there is no pump what happens? are the bars locked so effectively making them normal roll bars or are the not looked effectively meaning there is no anti roll bar :)

I presume that the pump was removed due to a leak somewhere and it was fitted an idler puley instead which means that the system now is ''floppy" so not much anti roll activity unless those who removed the pump didnt lock the ACE actuators with some brackets or blancked the pipes with oil inside.

Could be anything.

Most liikely a leak though

Howver lots of cheap parts on Ebay from removal fetishists

I would do the following anyway

If rams look OK try a hydraulic hose conversion, convert block to use standard hydraulic fittings, this will solve hose and block leak issues.

Check the pump pipes, if knackered need new ones but flange seal is rubbish convert to 3/8" compression at block end.

Now fit a pump. plenty on Ebay, do not run it dry.

Now see what happens, a Hawkeye or similar is usefull here.

Mine has had following issues

Rusty rear pipes
failed flanges on front pipes

Seal is £18 hydraulic hose is low £20s

Ran like this for a year then ECU failed. £20 off Ebay to replace

Aye Id guess its a leak...doesn't look like the pump was removed that long ago...the belt looks new.

Id have the parts to go either way if I had to ....but its work!!!

If the ACE roll bars locked when not being used then Id just leave it like that. :) It might be worth a fix as it has a chassis :)

OK got to PC.

If no oil it will be in no bars mode, otherwise similar to locked bars mode but more roll.

I would wait until warm weather but before then get all the pipework sorted (hydraulic hose and modded block)

Whole system is perfectly repairable and has been invaluable for me.

We moved offices early this year and my new commute is twisty as fuck. So I bomb into corners and remain level.

ALSO at low speeds with axle articulation required, they articulate better than solid bars.

So one part of my commute ACE means I can either take the bends at saloon car speeds or get throught the BOAT with big axle twisters on it.

I was unsure on a live axle Land Rover product at first as a main car due to roll, (been in enough) but the D2 I test drove was so good I bought it at top book (was desperate for a car).

I had started looking at a L322 but reliability and price scared me off.

I know the place that MOT'd it so will ask if they bodged it and see if they know what was wrong. Think I'll fix it....probably easier than trying to unbolt the bars of of 2 of them and fitting normal bars on this one....a wee hose or 2 sounds easier :)

Though I just offered it to a guy for a Renault Traffic but hes not got back to me :) Guess he doesnt want a quality Disco2
