Hi Guys. How hard is it to change the ABS pump and is it possible to change it without taking it to a garage,as I think my pump may be on it's way out.

Are you sure it's the pump and not the accumulator?
Dead easy job to change the whole assembly.

Hi Datatek, yes I would say so as my ABS light is on all the time and I'm getting a lot of noise when I apply the brakes and the ABS has not felt good for a while, so your just talking about changing the ball type object on the top and that may cure my problem. Also it has stopped running on start up and I'm not getting any noise from it at that time.

How hard would it be to just to change the accumulator, is it just a case of unscrewing the old a putting in the new 1 in how would you know that this had a fault. Thanks.

How many times can you brake before the pump runs, should iirc be 4/5 applications, if only 1/2
accumalator is shot.
just unscrew old and screw in new but, first with ignition off pump the pedal at least 30 times
to clear the pressure or fluid will escape under pressure and bleeding will be required, not to mention the mess last thing you need on paintwork is brake fluid.

That's the problem all I'm getting is the noise from the servo and no pump running, even when you switch on the ignition it was making a noise, now nothing. Just silence no pump,so there the problem is it the pump or just the accumulator.

I think diagnostics may be required, could be the Ecu.

So it could be the pressure switch. The pump could be knackered from running too often with a duff accumulator.
Looking at things it's going to be just as easier changing the ABS pump and have done with it, so now the hunt for a decent ABS pump begins. Thanks Guys. I'll post any updates as to how I went on.

Any pump you find is likely to have a duff accumulator:(

Yes I know but a OEM type is around £1.300 and a genuine one is £2.500 there abouts so no contest at the moment as I've only just got back to work. LOL. I've got time to change it as my MOT is not till September or do I strip mi9ne down to look at it.

Doubt you will get parts if you do strip it down

Good luck and, be careful out there, a P38 is a bit of a lump to, have less than 100% brakes:rolleyes:
