We have a Range Rover 2004 4.4L V8 Petrol. The car is now in the Land Rover dealer workshop. They told us that the ABS ECU block needs to be changed. The symptom is that when you start driving, the ABS light comes on and shortly after that the front right wheel locks up for a moment, just for a moment. We wonder how that can be. Does anyone know this kind of problem?

ecu block?
the ecu can fail, but normally the same symptom as a failed ABS sensor.
another fault can be the reluctor ring on one or more wheels can fail, this causes the ECU to think a wheel is sliding

Hi, I just wanted to say that my daughters Vauxhall Corsa 2007 had exactly the same issue you described and the ABS block was replaced. On the Corsa it is a well known fault. Hope this is helpful, good luck with changing the view of the dealer :(.
Tricky :)

It’s the block that the brake pipes all connect to and distributes braking pressure per wheel. Apparently it just gives up and delivers uneven braking to one side fooling the control module into thinking there is a slip and lock up across the front. When driving it just felt like a normal ABS pedal bounce due to ice or gravel surface. We only discovered the fault at the MoT Test.

I am sure @Saint.V8 had this the abs unit is down the back of the engine right were all the muck and rubbish goes and water gets in:(
Close.....

Its on the inner wing just above the exhaust manifold where it gets too hot and goes bandy - the tiny little wires inside can get detached due to heat expansion (common on BMW 5'er and 7'er too)....

The ABS Harness to the ECU can also suffer from moisture tracking up the loom and corroding the pins.

I have a thread on here of both the inside of the module with the tiny wires had become detached and also the Tech Bulletin repair to the wiring loom....

BBA Reman is also a company that can rebuild the ECU and possibly to module too....
